Meet Sara

It’s time for our “Meet the Legacy Blanket Team” blog series to continue!

Today you will get to meet Sara.

Sara Nadine Thomas

Sara and I met 3 years ago through a Facebook group and instantly connected!  We have learned so much about one another over the last few years and I am amazed at how God can put someone in your life who just “gets you”.  As our friendship continues to grow, I am thankful for her and I hope one day we get to meet in person!  🙂

She has also become our Legacy Blanket Creator “teacher” in the group.  She is always willing to share videos for those who are learning crochet and she is SO GOOD at it!

Here’s more about Sara:

Where are you located?

I’m Sara and I think I’m the token Canadian of this group.  I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  I was born and raised here and have recently moved back after over 15 years elsewhere.

When and how did you learn to crochet?

I learned to crochet when I was 7 or so.  My Oma tried to teach me to knit but I didn’t really take to it.  So she taught me to crochet instead.  But I still crochet like you would knit even after all this time.  A few years after I learned, a small yarn shop opened in my neighborhood and I spent my entire summer and a lot of my free time in the shop crocheting.  I took a hiatus from crocheting for several years and focused on my cross stitching but still crocheted when travelling.  Upon moving to Bermuda, with two balls of yarn for my plane project, I made friends with several colleagues who also crocheted and I got hooked back in.  When I moved back to Canada from Bermuda two years ago, I came back with three duffle bags worth of yarn and many blankets made.

What do you enjoy crocheting the most?

I’ve been working on twin sized blankets for the past 8 years or so for the foster kids that will come through my home.  My dream is that every kid will get to pick and keep a blanket that helps them feel loved and safe.

What is your favorite yarn to use when crocheting?

I love working with Patons Canadians, Caron Cakes and Deborah Norville Everyday – they are such rich and vibrant colours. My favourite things about crocheting are the community that comes together and the portable hugs I get to make. The number of conversations that have been started over yarn and people seeing me crochet are always fascinating to me. And one of my best friends and I definitely met over a yarn conversation! I also love working with colour and creating something that can bring smiles or comfort to someone else. It brings me so much joy!

If you could visit any where in the world, where would you go?

If I could travel anywhere in the world I would love to go back to Europe but specifically I would love to visit the UK. I’d also love to go to New Zealand.

Are you enjoying getting to know more about our creators?  We will have more “Meet the Team” posts soon, so stay tuned!
