This was my first attempt at playing with a cotton/ linen blend yarn and it definitely won’t be my last!
When I came across the Universal Good Earth Yarn I wasn’t quite sure what to make, but knowing linen is popular for the spring and summer months I had to come up with something.
Once I got this yarn in my hands and began playing with it, I knew the texture would make for a great bag!
And who doesn’t love a crossbody?!?
1 Safari (Color A)
1 Dive (Color B)
Size U.S. J (6.0 mm) crochet hook.
Bag: 12.5 inches wide x 13.5 inches tall
Strap: 38 inches
Ch = chain
St(s) = stitch(es)
Sc = single crochet
Hdc = half double crochet
This bag is worked in the round. Your first row will set up the circle to begin the bottom of your bag.
DO NOT cut the yarn when you finish the last row of the body of the bag. You will go directly into creating the strap using the yarn on your hook. This will help keep the strap secure and sturdy.
Gauge is not important for this project.
(With Color A)
Round 1: Hdc into 3rd ch from hook and across the row. Place 3 hdc into last st to make the turn. Hdc across the opposite side of the st to make the other side of the bottom. Place 2 Hdc in last st to form turn. DO NOT JOIN to the first Hdc. (96 Hdc)
(Place a st marker in the first st to show the beginning of the round. You will move this st marker up at the beg of each row.)
Continue placing Hdc into each st until your bag reaches 8 inches tall.
(With Color B)
Continue placing Hdc into each st around until your bag reaches 13 inches tall. Stop at the st marker.
Sc around one full round.
Your st marker should be in the next st from the hook. Count 48 st. place another st marker. These will mark the two sides of your bag where your straps will be placed.
Row 1: Sc into the next 4 st. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 2: Hdc into the next 6 st. Ch 1. Turn.
Row 3 – 109: Repeat Row 2.
***Make sure your strap is not twisted before you begin connecting it to your bag.***
To connect the strap to the other side of your bag, you will place your hook into the first st on your strap AND the st with the st marker on your bag and sc into both sts. Repeat across the row of your strap and into the bag to finish connecting the strap. (7 sc)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
